ATTENDANCE POLICY Participation is one of the most important aspects in the educational development of our students. It is also part of the evaluation process used by teachers to determine a student's grade. If one is not present, then one cannot participate in the class activities. Regular attendance in school is mandatory. (Excessive absences and tardiness will prompt a parent, teacher, and principal conference.) Tardiness is also a disruption to the learning process. Our school day begins promptly at 7:45 a.m. Our doors open at 7:30 am. It is essential that all students be in the rooms at 7:45 a.m. for our opening prayer and announcements. It is important that parents cooperate by making sure their children are at school on time. HOURS: School begins promptly at 7:45 a.m. and ends at 1:50 p.m. Student should not arrive before 7:30 a.m. They may enter school at 7:30 a.m. and proceed right to their homeroom. TARDINESS: At 7:45 a.m. the school bell rings. Students who arrive after 7:45 a.m., must be escorted into the Alderman Street building. Parents must sign their child into the late arrivals book. Student patrol members will escort children proceeding to the primary building. Those students in the Middle School building will proceed right to their homerooms. ABSENCE: Students having symptoms of illness should remain home. It is the responsibility of the parents' to inform the school that the child will be absent. If the school has not been notified by 9 a.m., the school secretary will call your home or place of employment to verify that your child is home ill. It is in the interest of safety that it is essential to account for every child. No homework will be sent home for a child who is out on the first day of their illness. On the second day of absence the child's homeroom teacher will automatically send the student's books and assignments to the office. It will be the parent's responsibility to obtain these materials before the office is closed at 3 p.m. It is the student's responsibility to obtain all homework assignments they have missed by being absent. No advance assignments will be given for planned absences. PERFECT ATTENDANCE AWARDS Grades K-8 Perfect Attendance Awards will be given each marking period. Students who have not been absent will qualify for this award. Tardiness will disqualify you. |
